Optimizing production costs with laser hybrid welding
An innovative hybrid process for welding thick sheet metal helps cut the production costs of liquid tanks and pipelines. The process is around twelve times faster than conventional gas metal arc welding and was developed specifically for aluminum and steel materials. Under the joint research project HYBRILAS, scientists combined the advantages of laser beam and gas metal arc welding. The used <link internal-link internal link in current>ScanTracker of the YW52 welding head permits flexible laser welding properties. The result is precise welding seam widths and the fastest possible welding speed. As well as the much shorter machining time, the process uses far less fillers than conventional gas metal arc welding, reduces heat admission and component distortion.
