Innovation prize winner in the category of Macro machining
Especially useful inventions have been recently awarded at the International Laser Technology Congress in Aachen. 3rd place from the Innovation Award Laser Technology 2012 was happily awarded to the Dr. Markus Kogel-Hollacher's Precitec team. In the future, auto body sheet metal can be soldered together so cleanly that they can be painted without any reworking with the newly developed laser soldering head for industrial robots. The coaxial seam tracing in the new laser braze welding head enables processing regardless of direction, high process stability thanks to consistent processing speeds, less complicated robot programming and the processing of smaller radii. For the first time, 3-D structures can be processed with the new laser braze welding head. "We are able to bridge the height difference without changing the processing head orientation," explained Mr. Kogel-Hollacher. In addition, it is possible bridge small imprecision in components, since the new procedure has much higher tolerances. Above all, robots can work double so fast with the laser soldering heads than with common soldering heads. Sheet metal can also be worked together at a much steeper angle. Potential customers from the automotive sector have already tested the system and have agreed to apply the new technology. Around 300 guests attended the award ceremony in the historical ambiance of the Coronation Hall. The ceremony is in the International Laser Technology Congress AKL 12 with around 500 participants from the 9th to the 11th. of May.
