Measure welding depth in real time for stable welding processes and fewer rejects

Absolute inline measurement of the welding depth directly in the welding process

The welding depth is one of the decisive quality parameters in laser beam welding. With the Precitec IDM, you can measure the welding depth directly during the process - contactless, precise and in real time. The measurement is independent of process emissions, temperature radiation or reflections and provides absolute measured values for a reliable evaluation of the weld seam quality.

Thanks to intelligent TwinTec technology, the Precitec IDM measures the welding depth with high accuracy - even under real production conditions. Deviations are detected at an early stage, processes are stabilized and rejects are reduced. At the same time, the cost of destructive testing and reworking is reduced.

The system can be flexibly integrated into existing production lines and supports applications ranging from process monitoring to active control of the welding depth.

How can the welding depth be reliably monitored during laser beam welding?

Absolute welding depth instead of indirect process signals

The Precitec IDM measures the actual welding depth directly in the welding process - independent of process light, temperature radiation or reflections. This provides users with real physical measured values instead of indirect process signals. The precise depth information enables reliable evaluation of the weld seam quality, reduces process fluctuations and creates the basis for stable and reproducible series processes.

Constant welding depth thanks to real-time measurement and active process control

The Precitec IDM records the welding depth inline at up to 70 kHz and enables direct control of the laser power in real time. Process deviations are detected at an early stage and automatically compensated for. This means that the welding depth remains constant even with component tolerances, process fluctuations or changed production conditions. This reduces rejects and rework and ensures consistent welding quality.

Increased process reliability thanks to robust TwinTec technology

With TwinTec technology, the Precitec IDM simultaneously measures the keyhole depth and the distance to the component surface. This allows the absolute welding depth to be determined independently of external influences. Even under real production conditions with high-power lasers, the system delivers stable and reproducible measurement data. Applications benefit from greater process reliability, fewer destructive tests and a reliable quality assessment in the series production process.

Why measure welding depth inline?

Conventional quality inspections often only detect welding defects after the process. The Precitec IDM measures the welding depth directly during laser welding and provides absolute measured values in real time. This allows deviations to be detected at an early stage, processes to be stabilized and rejects to be reduced - before faulty components are produced.

Your benefits at a glance:

  • Direct depth measurement during the welding process
  • Absolute measured values instead of indirect process signals
  • Greater process reliability, fewer rejects and reduced destructive testing

Typical applications

Inline measurement of the welding depth for demanding laser welding processes

The Precitec IDM is particularly suitable for applications in which the welding depth is a decisive quality parameter. Thanks to precise inline measurement directly in the process, the system supports stable production processes, reproducible welding quality and reliable quality assessment - even with high quantities and demanding process conditions.

Typical areas of application are deep welding processes in industrial series production, where process fluctuations need to be detected at an early stage and rejects reduced, such as those that occur:

  • Automotive body-in-white
  • Powertrain components
  • Body and structural components
  • Deep welding processes with high quality requirements
  • Series production with seamless quality documentation
  • Applications with increased demand for process stability and reproducibility
