Workshop : "Laser welding and cutting of thin metal sheet"

Precitec and Welience organize a technical seminar about laser welding and cutting of thin metal sheet up to 3 mm. This workshop will take place on the 23th of September 2010 at the University of Burgundy, France.

During this seminar day, technical and scientific presentations will be offered as well as live demonstrations using the laser systems in the main topics laser welding, laser cutting and process monitoring.

Fully integrated monitoring of brazed/welded seam quality

Precitec is now offering a new complete solution for wire-guided joining processes. The "Scansonic ALO3" is a brazing/welding head with a fully integrated coaxial quality monitoring system. The system requires no additional space and gives users the cutting edge performance of Precitec products. Seam geometry monitoring detects the profile and the position of the fillet welds on the lap joint and double-flanged seams on the butt joint.

Fixture mechanisms can be optimally matched to the welding results, irrespective of any additional quality monitoring components. The welding head causes no obstruction whatsoever in the processing area and can easily travel in and out between the fixture mechanisms. Profile measurement takes place a few millimetres behind the welding spot, necessitating only a minimal overrun at the seam end. Frequent weld defects like lack of fusion, wire on the upper/lower metal surface, gaps between the metal sheets, etc., can now be reliably identified and monitored. The system also recognises open pores from 0.5 mm upwards.

Existing systems can easily be retrofitted.

Precitec USA hosted a 2-day laser welding workshop in March this year. The programme consisted of presentations and demonstrations in the three main topics - laser hybrid welding, welding with the LWM quality monitoring system and laser beam welding with the WobbleTracker. Lectures on these topics were also given by other companies. Since this event was very well received by customers - and we had interesting and promising discussions with potential customers, we have decided to host more workshops in the future.

Around 50 well-known companies and decision makers responded to our invitation to attend the event, which took place on the IPG premises.

From 10-12 February, Precitec presented its products for laser cutting and welding at the Welding & Cutting Exhibition in Mumbai, India. The Exhibition proved to be very popular and we had many discussions with potential customers. A great deal of interest was shown in our CO₂ laser cutting products. Our presence at the Exhibition on the German joint stand was supported by our Indian representatives and our contact on site, Laser Science Services(I) Pvt. Ltd.
